Ubud bar guide and night life

The bar scene is Ubud is pretty refined and more self consciously laid back than most of Bali’s beach resorts. With a few notable exceptions, most places close around midnight. There are a handful of late night bars showing sports action or hosting live music several nights a week which are deservedly popular with locals and tourists alike.

There are just a couple of venues for late night clubbing and the scene is generally more mature and sophisticated. There are several decent lounge bars in central Ubud but just as much choice in outlying areas such as Sanggingan or Pengosekan. Jazz Cafe
A lively bar lounge showcasing renowned jazz bands from across Indonesia six nights a week. It has a sparkling art deco style interior and a picturesque garden courtyard for chilling out. It is a vibrant late night spot despite its rather hidden location down a suburban side street. There are nightly happy hours, a pool table and open mic sets most nights. The late night venue of choice for local ravers and is as close to a hedonistic night out as Ubud gets. It is a compact dimly lit dance club with a decent sized dance floor and pool tables. There are regular theme club nights and guest DJ appearances and the occasional live band performance. Music policy is strictly dance and hip hop courtesy of a booming sound system. Fly Cafe
A lively expat-friendly local pub located in the picturesque hills of the Campuhan valley. It has a welcoming, convivial atmosphere with quiz nights and the occasional live band or karaoke. It is all very laid back and a great place to make new friends, play darts or browse its very own compact art gallery with a glass of beer in hand. It offers an extensive pub style menu of hearty dishes including BBQ ribs, steak pie and bangers and mash. Cafe des Artistes
A weird and wonderful lounge bar with a decidedly bohemian atmosphere, this popular watering hole is a laid back affair and offers scrumptious pub style food and a cosmopolitan range of cocktails and premium beers.

You can play darts, shoot pool or simply relax with a newspaper or magazine and there is also a pleasant garden terrace for al fresco meals or sundowners. Naughty Nuri’s
People flock here from all over Bali for reputedly the best martinis in Southeast Asia and this lively little place guarantees an unpretentious fun night out for all. It attracts groups by the busload, offering hearty Tex Mex food, free flowing beer and cheap tequila. Expect dancing on tables and late night drinking games. A bright and artfully designed open fronted lounge bar and restaurant, this popular spot is the place to be for live acoustic music with local bands and impromptu jamming sessions every night. It is all very laid back with an emphasis on reggae and blues and it has an infectious Kuta beach style ambience. This is an atmospheric small bar in the centre of town that makes for a fun night enjoying loud live music or karaoke. It offers decent seafood and Italian bites at bargain prices and ice cold beer and cocktails by the pitcher. It attracts a regular clientele of young locals and can get crowded at weekends.
